MarqueMadness Marque Shootout Autocross

Format: This event is designed for maximum fun, seat time, and an opportunity for all entrants to compete, and enjoy watching and learning from other marques that run with them. The eventual winners will be awarded on the winner’s circle podium at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday the 6th of May.

First day - Intra-Club Rivals: This day will be for each club to compete among its own cars – with Vipers running against Vipers, Lotuses against Lotuses, and so on. The MarqueMadness guidelines for classes will be stock, street modified, and modified within each club.  There will be winners declared for each class within each club or marque that has 5 or more cars entered. However, all cars will be welcome to run. If a specific club would like to run by its own specific classifications and rules and it is made clear to the event director in advance, this will be allowed. There will still be, however 3 awards per club, and the club may allocate these how they see fit.  The bottom line for the first day is to get maximum runs for all entrants and give each marque a good opportunity to run against their friends and rivals.

Second Day – The Shootout: Depending on overall turnout, the goal will be to invite all drivers from day one to the shootout. If a limit is needed, each club will be asked to nominate drivers that have proven proficiency from the previous day. There will be room for at least 60 drivers on the second day. The format will be as follows: Similar to bracket drag racing, each competitor will be asked to give an estimated run time average for each of three runs (number of runs could be more, but not less). Within three overall classes (including all marques), stock, street modified, and modified, there will be three winners determined by the closest estimate to actual average run time. There will also be three Top Time of Day awards, one for each group – stock, street modified, and modified. This format puts a premium on knowing one’s car, the course and driving consistent, clean runs – with credit also given to the real hot rods. Pylons will be a one second deduction. We think that this unique format should allow everyone, from the entry level Mini or Miata driver, to the national champion Porsche or Bimmer driver a chance to be in the middle of the action throughout the day. And the winners will obviously have great bragging rights in representing their Marque.
